Yak fire away on new track ‘Semi-Automatic’

It joins ‘Heavens Above’ on a new AA-side single.

Yak are releasing a new AA-side single next week (28th October), and have shared the second one of those A-sides.

‘Semi-Automatic’ follows the incendiary ‘Heavens Above’, and comes fully loaded itself, taking more than a subtle dig at a certain Donald Trump, with Oli Burslem singing “build a new wall to form a division”.

The track was one of four songs recorded with Pulp’s Steve Mackey (who was on desk duties for the band’s debut album ‘Alas Salvation’) in one day this summer.

Speaking of the process in a press release, Burslem says: “In-between touring in August we managed to squeeze a day in the studio with Mr Mackey and put down 4 tracks that we had written on the road. ‘Semi-Automatic’ and ‘Heavens Above’ are a result of that session and will be the last thing we release before disappearing and getting ready to record the next record. Both tracks are a simple and direct response to what is current and what we have seen, read and been part of over the period since the band started touring.”

The band begin their biggest UK tour to date in Portsmouth tomorrow (19th October), with the tour stretching until the end of the month and a London show at Scala.
