Yak share video double-header for ‘Smile’ and ‘Distortion’
Both videos adopt a drug-fuelled gritty ’90s feel.
Yak have unveiled the videos for both ‘Smile’ and ‘Distortion’ in the form of a woozy, lo-fi double header.
The first video feels like mismatch of The Office and This Is England, as a bunch of slightly sad, slightly mean looking old blokes choke down pint after pint as Yak play what looks like a poorly decorated town hall to a dwindling crowd of wreck-heads.
The second video however abandons this uncomfortably real setting in favour of fantastical, high-contrast psychedelia as Yak dance their way through a forest, drinking from crystal clear pools and staring mournfully at their own reflections. The two videos both feel decidedly gritty and uncomfortable, a tone driven home by the grainy, 4:3 footage and monotonous drawl of the tracks themselves. It’s not all doom and gloom though - the London-based trio at least get a few plates of greasy bacon and eggs for their troubles.
Both ‘Smile’ and ‘Distortion’ are part of Yak’s three-track EP ‘Plastic People’ which is out now.
Yak, one of DIY’s Liverpool Sound City highlights, are touring the UK in September with a few summer dates lined-up, check out the full dates and the video for ‘Smile/Distortion’ below.
