With her new album ‘Okovi’ due to come out on 8th September via Sacred Bones Records, Zola Jesus has shared another track from the LP.
She’s already shared a couple of tracks from the new album, ‘Soak’ and ‘Exhumed’, and now she’s lifted the lid on another, ‘Siphon’. Much like the previous two glimpses into the record, it’s harsh and industrial, but also shows a slightly more tender side to Nika Roza Danilova, unsurprising given the circumstances surrounding its writing.
Speaking of the track, Nika said: “Initially, I was apprehensive about releasing Siphon into the world. This song was not intended for public consumption. It was written for someone very close to me who had attempted suicide for the second time. In the weeks surrounding this tragedy, I desperately tried everything I could to convince them to stay alive. There is no greater horror than watching someone you love physically destroy themselves… not knowing if you would see them tomorrow . In the end, I decided this song needed to be heard, not only by this person, but by others as well”.
In October and November, Zola Jesus will head out on a tour of the UK and Ireland as part of a larger run around Europe. She’ll head to Brighton, Glasgow, Manchester, Leeds, Norwich, Liverpool, Dublin and round off the journey in London. Tickets are on sale now.
