30 Seconds To Mars - A Beautiful Lie

Actors and musicians should never mix. An Academy Award for 50 Cent?! A Grammy for Keanu Reeves?! Actors, on the whole, get paid silly amounts of money to read from cue cards and hope it looks convincing. Musicians, with the possible exception of U2, write about subjects that mean something to them and hope it captures peoples’ hearts.

Now it’s Jared Leto’s turn. Leto, known mostly for his role as a mid-90s heartthrob and bit-part role in Fight Club, along with brother Shannon and two others, are all emo-lites, wearing regulation beanie hats, dyed black hair and pained expressions. ‘A Beautiful Lie’ is such overproduced cack that even a Fall Out Boy fan would balk at it.

It’s filled from start to finish with faux-angst screams and sixth form poetry that would only please a thirteen year old boy, not to mention a criminal re-hash of Bjork’s ‘Hunter’. Bizarrely, Leto even claims to have been influenced by Stanley Kubrick, C.S. Lewis and Dr. Seuss.

So, what is the ‘beautiful lie’? That Jared Leto can neither act nor sing? Oh, no. That’s the truth. Grow up, tosser.
