InMe - Herald Moth

Four albums down the line and InMe are still going, but only just. The well received debut ‘Overgrown Eden’ was an exciting and stirring piece of work, especially given the fact that the majority of the band were likely to still get I.D’d at the supermarket for booze on a Saturday evening.

Six years down the line and the band seem to have lost their bite somewhat. You’d be forgiven for thinking that the now foursome have spent the last two years since 2007’s ‘Daydream Anonymous’ trapped in an 80s time warp practising on their keytar because this album sounds worryingly dated.

Whilst bands like Iron Maiden make their old school groove work for them, for InMe, their unfounded fondness on this album for distracting keyboard melodies proves to be their biggest downfall. Certain tunes have their cereal sized crunch, ‘Nova Armada’ and ‘Belief Revival’ amongst those that nestle away in their own little fashion. But the swirling and quite frankly confusing addition of 80s keyboards only serves to add to the impression that the band have gone backwards if anything else.

‘All Terrain Vehicle’ and ‘I will Honour You’ serve up a helping of cheesy balladry and are possibly the highlights in what is otherwise a disappointing and repetitive album. Recent release ‘Single of the Weak’ is a catchy enough ditty that would appeal to the under 16s and fans who have grown weary of listening to Hannah Montana, but otherwise there is little else to recommend here from a band that once showed potential.
