Dance music, like almost all forms of music, is cyclical in nature. Sounds and styles are constantly being repackaged and reworked. It seems that the early 90s house and that very British sound of two-step garage are enjoying something of a renaissance in the last few years.
The latest single by Lancastrian production duo Bondax is a perfect example of the reconfiguration of these classic sounds for 2012. Lead track ‘Baby I Got That’ is a glorious slice of smoothed out house replete with strong piano hooks and a sultry vocal sample. It is a single that expertly recaptures the 3am vibe of a typical Balearic nightclub.
B-side ‘It’s You’ offers up another example of the duo’s ability to adopt different styles. There is an undeniable freshness to these sounds; both tracks will worm their way directly into your head, set up camp and resolutely refuse to leave - they’re remarkably assured for two fledgling producers. In time, it can be expected that they will make something a bit less reverential but for now, this will do just fine.
