Oddly reminiscent of Snow Patrol, ‘The Vague Archive’ by Dance To The Radio’s Grammatics is definitely going for a BIG sound and it’s a complete success.
Key to Grammatics charm has always been having a cellist in the form of Emilia Ergin as a member of the band and the expansiveness of this track showcases what a perfectly brilliant choice this was. The vocal arrangements which recall pop ballads of the late ‘90s, have every opportunity to sound horrifically cheesy yet maintain their integrity throughout.
It may come across as a bit too sincere at times (mainly down to the lead singer Owen Brinley’s vocal style) but there’s a lot to like about Grammatics and the timing of this single is excellent. With choruses about the changing of seasons and crashing cymbals and pounded snare in the slow conclusion showcase this song’s appeal as the perfect winter soundtrack.
