Local Natives - Camera Talk

This is a band who know exactly where they want to take you.

This is a difficult one to pin down. On the one hand, Local Natives have all those American folk influences that have become so popular in the last year or so, on the other, they have a distinctly laid-back indie sensibility that never seems to go out of fashion.

Powered by a deep drumbeat that doesn’t let up, ‘Camera Talk’ pushes us along whilst never feeling forceful. The band pull off some perfect Fleet Foxes harmonies and wistful violin strains whilst allowing for muted, overdriven guitar to add some punch to the song. Mix in some jumpy Hammond organ and airy guitar melodies over all of that and what we’re left with is a song that should be confused and too full of ideas. Brilliantly though, each element lets up just as another comes in, making this not only well-constructed, but an absolute joy to listen to, taking us on an aural journey that’s over before you know it, and leaves you wanting more.

Warm, intelligent and relaxing, this is a band who know exactly where they want to take you, and do it with such elegance that you can’t help but follow.
