Miike Snow – Animal

A subtle ska beat, synth interludes and gentle, if slightly tuneless, vocals.

This Miike Snow, he’s such a talented chap. Have you heard his new single ‘Animal’? It’s rather catchy, you know. Hang on, Miike Snow isn’t a real person?!

Yes, folks. Miike Snow is, in fact, a pseudonym for a Swedish singing / songwriting / producing trio, two of whom have helped pen tracks for Kylie, Britney and the Sugababes. Fitting, then, that the chorus to this cool-pop single states “I change shapes just to hide in this place, but I’m still, I’m still an animal”, suggesting their reluctance to enter the sphere of uber scenester super-producers.

‘Animal’ combines a subtle ska beat, synth interludes and gentle, if slightly tuneless, vocals, to produce a ‘what if’ track if Animal Collective had happened to meet Phoenix, had a picnic, then strolled along to a recording studio. Whilst the band may be innocent to the ear, a lot of production has gone into making this track a slick slice of summer pop.
