We don’t know if anyone’s been in contact with Gloria Gaynor yet, but they probably should make it an urgent phonecall because with Passion Pit disco’s back… and it’s really quite sexy again.
You can almost imagine John Travolta flying round within ‘The Reeling’, well almost, if it weren’t for the quite aggressive beats that make up the skeleton of this dancer. Then there’s the almost glitter and sparkle quality of the sampled noises making scattered shots over the verses and drenching the chorus. The vocal echoes Bee Gee’s falsetto, matching the Go Team for it’s all-inclusive “Oh no”s and unfaltering exuberance.
Despite some decidedly unhappy lyrics, “Every day I lie awake and pray to God today’s the day / oh no, oh no / here I am oh here I am / and why won’t someone understand?” the remainder is pure dance floor directed boogie. The sweetly choreographed mock-trumpet blasts make this a rather unforgettable track that could claim it’s boisterous crown from the hands of ‘Young Hearts Run Free’. Synchronised dance moves at the ready people.
