The Chakras - We The People

An uptempo track driven by bass and drums.

Let me begin with an anecdote. I have already seen this Dublin-based band twice, but both times I couldn’t remember what they were called. It just didn’t seem to stick. ‘The Chakras?,’ I thought when I finally did twig the name. I didn’t even know what a ‘chakra’ was at the time. (Fact fans: It’s a religious concept used in Hindu practices.)

It’s been two years since those shows (within days of each other, no less), so they’ve had plenty of time to work on things, and they certainly have been doing so: ‘We The People’ is the first single from their debut album, ‘Build Me A Swan’, due out in those vaguest of times, ‘the summer’.

An uptempo track driven by bass and drums, it could be said to be keeping up with the zeitgeist rather well as its lyrics seem to fit perfectly with the uprisings in the Arab world over the last few months. It’s an ambitious song that refuses to be tied down to any one genre, and displays a band with confidence far beyond their years. I won’t be forgetting this in a hurry.
