Theme Park - Jamaica

Yet another example of Theme Park’s prodigious talent.

This summer has not been the greatest as wall-to-wall sunshine has largely been replaced with rain, torpor and an at times relentless gloom. Therefore, it may be a slightly inappropriate time for Theme Park to emerge with a single that is a perfect summer pop jam. On the other hand, ‘Jamaica’’s louche, languid blue eyed soul may be just the tonic for anyone looking to be transported to a summer paradise.

‘Jamaica’ is extraordinarily smooth; consider it a kind of indie ‘Club Tropicana’ for 2012. It would be very easy for this to lapse into a kind of ironic cheesiness but Theme Park pull it off with panache. There is a lovely easy going lilt to singer Miles Haughton’s vocals as he describes a reflective pause in a blissful summer holiday. It is a single that is very much of it’s time and would probably sound desperately out of place in the depths of winter, but for now it is yet another example of Theme Park’s prodigious talent.
