, the second single from Scottish quartet We Were Promised Jetpacks’ debut record ‘These Four Walls’, bristles with the energy and intensity only youth seems to bring. In fact, it burns so intensely at the start that the song eventually gives way to a hazy coda imploring the listener (or the band, or the media) to ‘stay calm.’ But with the jangly spirit found at the beginning of the song, those words are indeed hard to heed, as the track seems to stir everything but calmness within their fans.
It’s a raucous, frenetic song, driven by the steady percussion of Darren Lackie and the rapid fire riffs of Adam Thompson. The song is bold and ambitious, especially for such a young band, but hardly breaks any new musical ground. What becomes most appealing about the track is the sheer immediacy of it, as if it’s coming from a band that knows they might not get another shot. And with an album as strong and potent as ‘These Four Walls’, we’re sure to hear more from these lads in the future.
