The Swindon four-piece’s first work is a huge slice of shoegazing punk - listen first on DIY.

Rain make a thunderous statement with debut track 'Slur'

Rain are clearly aware that you only get one shot at a first impression. Biding their time, slotting everything into place, the Swindon four-piece have racked up a handful of dates alongside their nearest and dearest as they’ve readied their debut release. With ‘Slur’, they prove the patience to be worth every second.

Rocketing out of the starting gates, it’s the sound of a well-oiled machine exploding into life. Powerhouse drumming carves a path through waves of fuzz and into murky melody - grunge-heavy shoegazers might not be the rarest of fruit, but ‘Slur’ is backed by the potent weight of a band who’ve clearly been gagging for this emotional release.

It’s taken from a debut EP, ‘Symphony Pains’, which was recorded at The Ranch in Southampton - a studio whose recent graduates read like a who’s who of soon-to-be superstars with Creeper, Milk Teeth and more heading up their alumni. Make no mistake, ‘Slur’ is the sound of Rain pitching themselves right up alongside the cream of the UK’s heavier crop.
