Savages: “You’ve got to be brave, otherwise you shouldn’t be in a rock band, frankly!”
New album ‘Adore Life’ is out next year.
One day on from announcing second album ‘Adore Life’, Savages have spoken about the brave leap of faith they took to make the record.
Speaking to DIY, drummer Fay Milton opened up about the band’s choice to road-test new material during New York Residency shows at the start of 2016. “You’ve got to be brave, otherwise you shouldn’t be in a rock band, frankly!” she said.
Writing kicked off at the start of 2014, and in contrast to their debut ‘Silence Yourself’, this was a chance to formulate ideas before racing into the live game. “It’s funny and it’s going to sound ridiculously obvious, but we set out to write a record,” Milton said. “That’s different from how it was the first time around in the sense of, the first time around we were just writing songs and seeing how we collaborated together and how it came out. It was exploratory. We didn’t start together to make a record, we started writing together so we could play shows. A record came afterwards; we took what came afterwards and put it down as a record. This time, we couldn’t pretend we weren’t making a record: that’s what we were doing.”
