Alvvays unveil collage video for new single, ‘Next of Kin’
Track is taken from the Canadian band’s faultless self-titled debut.
Canadian five-piece Alvvays are airing a snapshot, collage-style animated video for their brilliant ‘Next of Kin’ track, one of several would-be-singles from a self-titled album that came out earlier this year. This one’s due for release on 27th October, arriving in time for the band’s next run of UK dates, including several with Real Estate.
Directed by Connor Gilhooly, ‘Next of Kin’’s video (premiering on DIY) gives a flick-through approach. Like turning the pages of a scrapbook, collage images of crashing waves, surfing bros and sweet escape are cast up against a stop-frame version of lead singer/guitarist Molly Rankin. It’s a brilliantly inventive companion to a song that’s the very definition of bittersweet, getting by on the standout lyric from the entire album, “I left my love in the river.”
Alvvays recently announced their appearance at London’s Bethnal Green Working Men’s Club, for a new music celebration as part of Transgressive Records’ 10th birthday.
See the band’s forthcoming UK dates above the player - ‘Alvvays’ is out now on Transgressive.
