Animal Collective To Broadcast Own Radio Station

Ahead of forthcoming album ‘Centipede Hz.’ the band are set to take over the airwaves.

When DIY had a natter to Noah (Panda Bear) and Josh (Deakin) about ‘Centipede Hz.’ a while ago, being the nosey parkers we are, we tried our luck at getting some gossip about how exactly Animal Collective would choose to release the album.

‘We do have some plans to do something that is harmonious with the vibe of the album, just really fun’ Noah told us, doing a very good job at not giving much away.

However, the pair also let slip about some ideas that have been flying round camp Centipede, notably an enthusiasm for the radio. ‘We all talked a lot about the radio stations that we listened to when we were growing up’ Josh told us, ‘the effect of listening to late night radio mixes.’

We had a little inkling that given this, plus the presence of radio lingo in the album’s title, Animal Collective would perhaps do something with airwaves, and today we got concrete confirmation.

On this viral video the band confirm that they will be broadcasting on Sunday at 9pm EST (that’s 2am for us Brits) from the same website as the video, with the late-night radio mix we were hoping for. Promising mixes from member Panda Bear, as well as Black Dice, Haunted Graffiti and Sublime Frequencies, this looks set to be very special indeed.
