Another Sky channel Radiohead on soaring new single ‘Chillers’
The Fiction signings’ new one is urgent and angry - it’s today’s Neu Pick.
Every weekday, DIY’s new music know-it-all Neu brings you one essential new release to get obsessed with. Today’s Neu Pick comes from Another Sky.
Over the past six months, Fiction signings Another Sky have proved themselves a superbly exciting new prospect, twisting art-pop in fascinating, dark new directions.
Following up fantastic recent single ‘Avalanche’ is ‘Chillers’, another intriguing step forward. The track has a heavy social conscience - “Why worry ‘bout the weather or nuclear weapons when they eat for free on a black card at Nandos?” vocalist Catrin Vincent spits - but it’s delivered in such a way that it swerves reading like a Banksy billboard, and instead comes across as a genuinely chilling social commentary.
Musically, the track feeds into this uneasy, creeping feeling - the slithering acoustic guitar that introduces the guitar recalls Radiohead at their gnarliest, though Catrin’s vocals can’t begin to be categorised, such is their wonderful uniqueness.
Listen to ‘Chillers’ below.
