BANKS makes statement on Neon Jungle’s use of ‘Waiting Game’

LA singer expresses surprise about the song’s use: “I was never asked.”

LA singer BANKS has expressed her surprise at UK pop group Neon Jungle using her ‘Waiting Game’ song on their debut album.

The 2013 single - which is also set to appear on BANKS’ ‘Goddess’ debut, out in September - features on the band’s ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ LP. In a statement to fans, Gillian Banks explained that “I was never asked,” regarding the song use.

“I was as shocked as you to see this song made up of my own heartbeats on their album,” she said. “How strange it is to see it used on someone else’s album before it even comes out on mine.

“It makes me feel very uncomfortable. Like my own thoughts were stolen from me and sold as someone elses. I am a new artist and new to this business and I am told it is legal. But it feels really icky.”

A Facebook commenter has pointed out that a cover of Hozier’s ‘Take Me To Church’ is marked as such on the Neon Jungle album, but ‘Waiting Game’ isn’t credited to BANKS. Listen to both versions below.

Yesterday BANKS unveiled the new video for ‘Beggin For Thread’. Watch that here.

‘Goddess’ is released on 9th September.
