BIG SPECIAL team up with John Grant for new single ‘STAY DOWN, LAZARUS’

BIG SPECIAL have joined forces with John Grant for their latest track ‘STAY DOWN, LAZARUS’ - our first taste of new music from the pair since their debut album, ‘POSTINDUSTRIAL HOMETOWN BLUES’, was released earlier this year.

Continuing to showcase the Black Country duo’s flair for biting yet emotive social commentary, the collaborative number sees them feature another artist for the first time - a “major influence” of theirs, no less (whose latest LP ‘The Art Of The Lie’ also arrived over Summer). 

“STAY DOWN, LAZARUS’ is just a big moan about the social promise of elevation and rising up, that doesn’t really exist for most people,” lead vocalist Joe Hicklin has said of the song. “It was actually the first song written for BIG SPECIAL, but it didn’t make our debut album. We always felt it needed something more, so we took a shot in the dark and asked John Grant, a major influence of ours, to have a crack at it with us. We are proper chuffed he wanted to get involved and still pinching ourselves.”

For his part, the beloved New York songwriter has shared that he “was very psyched that BIG SPECIAL asked me along for the ride on this track,” adding that he “had a blast doing this!”
