Canshaker Pi are an off-kilter delight on ‘Pressure From Above’
The Dutch quartet are also heading out on tour with The Cribs this December.
For those who dwell among the regions of wonky slacker rock, there’s almost no higher praise than the patronage of Pavement’s high priest Stephen Malkmus.
That was bestowed on Amsterdam’s Canshaker Pi last year when the legend stepped up for production duties on the band’s self-titled debut album. Now the group are back with ‘Pressure From Above’, and you can see why some of music’s greats are on board.
A blustering romp of fuzzy guitars, big joyously off-kilter guitars and needling riffs, it’s a barely-contained sprint of indie rock (in the purest sense of the term) that hardly pauses for breath.
Of the track, singer Willem Smit says: “’Pressure From Above’ embodies the loneliness of being in large groups of people at night. Staying in bars too long on a daily basis resulting in a feeling of progresslessness.” Luckily, it sounds far more fun than that might suggest.
What’s more, the band are also off on tour with everyone’s favourite Wakefieldians The Cribs this December. A match for the ages.
Check out ‘Pressure From Above’ below, and catch them at the following dates.
