Chairlift share new track ‘Ch-Ching’

The band’s first new material for two years got a first spin on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 show.

After being pretty quiet for two years, Chairlift returned tonight with brand new single ‘Ch-Ching’. Getting its first airing on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 radio show, the band have performed the song here and there at gigs since 2013.

Rhe track is taken from duo Carolina Polachek and Patrick Wimberly’s third album, the follow-up to 2012’s ‘Something’. Since the second album, Polachek has put out solo music under her alias Ramona Lisa, and Wimberly has worked on the likes of Tune-Yards’ ‘Nikki Nack’, Wet’s debut album and Heems’ ‘Eat Pray Thug’.

With a clattering bash of drum sticks, Chairlift are back in popping onslaught of vibrating basses, stabbing horns, and trilling, cascading drums that fall down pitches like a slinky losing its footing. It’s a punchy new direction from Chairlift, trading in minimalism for brilliantly saturated pop.

Speaking to Zane Lowe, the band also revealed that they bought a pharmacy in New York and repurposed it into a studio. It’s where they worked on their new record.
