Chappell Roan goes country on much-anticipated new song ‘The Giver’
It’s the breakout superstar’s first release since the phenomenal success of ‘Good Luck, Babe!’ last year.

Chappell Roan has made a barnstorming return with new single ‘The Giver’ - her first since ‘Good Luck, Babe!’ catapulted her to global mainstream stardom last year, and also her first foray into country music.
Following in the footsteps of Beyoncé (whose recent album, ‘COWBOY CARTER’, redefined popular conceptions of the genre), this latest number from the Midwest Princess takes traditional country elements (like its fiddle-driven instrumentation and heart-on-sleeve lyricism) and incorporates them into an impossibly catchy pop anthem, subverting the genre’s historically heteronormative associations with her signature sapphic spin.
“I have such a special place in my heart for country music,” Chappell - who’s set to headline Reading and Leeds this Summer - has said. “I grew up listening to it every morning and afternoon on my school bus and had it swirling around me at bonfires, grocery stores and karaoke bars.”
The song has also landed accompanied by an advert-esque video that sees her transform into various different characters - a lawyer, a dentist, a builder, a plumber, and a private investigator - who, true to the track, all have giving in their nature. What’s more, the vid begins with a computer menu of five phrases, including ‘Good Luck, Babe!’ and ‘The Giver’: could the remaining three - ‘To Be Yours’, ‘Read & Make Out’, and ‘The Subway’ - be track titles of future singles?
Of the speculation surrounding the rest of her upcoming music, she has teased: “Many people have asked if this means I’m making a country album??? My answer is… right now I’m just making songs that make me feel happy and fun and ‘The Giver’ is my take on cuntry xoxo may the classic country divas lead their genre, I am just here to twirl and do a little gay yodel for y’all.”
