Denmark’s Baby in Vain sink their teeth into ‘Muscles’

A grinding sluggishness defines the sweat-soaked aesthetic of Copenhagen band Baby in Vain. The Danish trio don’t fuck around. “I’m strangled, unfolded, to fit in five inches,” they chant in unison on ‘Muscles’, delivering everything in cutting, vicious lack-of-restraint.

This is a band schooled on the grit-lined rock of Jack White and his peers, but with ‘Muscles’ they emerge with a completely different take. What might sound steeped in nostalgia is instead breathlessly pointing forwards. A sleazy, closing thirty seconds of shameless riffs helps prove what we already know - Baby in Vain are a brilliantly assured breath of fresh air.
