Dev Hynes and Azealia Banks criticise BET Awards on Twitter

Nicki Minaj and Chris Brown have been heavily nominated for this year’s ceremony
Dev Hynes and Azealia Banks have criticised this year’s BET Awards on Twitter, following the announcement of this year’s nominees on Monday (18th May).
Nicki Minaj and Chris Brown have both received six nominations each, while Beyonce and Lil Wayne have received four apiece.
After the nominations were revealed, Dev Hynes mocked the upcoming ceremony, stating that black musicians “are more than just “rappers” and “RnB” singers”, jokingly suggesting they rename the event as the “Mainstream Rap/RnB/Pop with black people” awards”.
Azealia Banks said that she finds the nominations “bogus”, adding “I really hate getting nominated.” Banks has been nominated for the ‘Best Female Hip Hop Artist’ alongside Dej Loaf, Tink, Iggy Azalea, and Nicki Minaj. “The female rap award at the bet awards goes to nicki every year, it’s not even a real award anymore lol it’s a bit of a running joke,” Banks said. “They should just nominate nicki five times with five different wigs on and pick the best picture lol.”
