Dutch Uncles: “It’ll be a great opportunity for a bit of a do-over!”

The Manchester four-piece will kick off this year’s Stand For Something Tour with a second visit to Glasgow’s Nice ‘N’ Sleazys.

It’s that time again: the Dr. Martens Stand For Something Tour is about to take over the UK once more and Glasgow is the perfect place to get things started.

It’s been a busy year for Dutch Uncles, who’ll be making the trip to Scotland from their Manchester home but have no fear: they’re set to be more than prepared for their visit to Glasgow. After releasing their last album ‘O Shudder’ back in February and embarking upon a summer of festivals for practice, their set’s could even be one of the final things they do with this record.

“It’s been quite interesting with this album,” begins frontman Duncan Wallis, “because when we finished and as soon as realised we had to start playing the songs live, we realised there were three or four songs that we couldn’t ever possibly play live!” He laughs, hinting at their newfound approach to touring this time around: “It’s been quite fortunate for us, as we’ve not really done a recognisable headline tour; we’ve done a couple of headline shows and we’ve mainly just done festivals. We’ve kinda been using those kind of gigs to tour the album. It’s a bit odd though because it feels as though we’ve almost finished touring the album, and it only came out half a year ago!”

Despite this, the band still have a slew of performances lined up. From supporting Garbage across Europe, to rounding the year out with a handful of headliners, it’s their Scottish stint that’s the one sticking out for them. “For all our enormodome shows with Garbage, the thing we tell ourselves if we get nervous is that it’s not even our crowd,” explains Wallis. “The thing with Glasgow is, I’ll probably be more concerned about a show like that! We’ve played there before, maybe four years ago, and it was one of those days where we got to Glasgow and it was raining sideways. It was day fourteen on a tour and you’re feeling like shit, so the last thing you really want to do is play a gig. We got there and realised it was a really nice venue and then you get really pissed off because you weren’t anticipating for it to actually be good! For me, personally, to play Nice N Sleazys again will be a great opportunity for a bit of a do-over!”

Dutch Uncles will play the Glasgow leg of the Dr. Martens’ Stand For Something Tour, in association with DIY on 26th September, supported by United Fruit and Schnarff Schnarff. Tickets are available now.
