Dutch Uncles pick up the pace on ‘Oh Yeah’
It features backing vocals from Stealing Sheep and Everything Everything.
Fancy hearing one of Dutch Uncles’ most up-tempo songs to date? ‘Oh Yeah’!
The latest single from the Mancunian group’s new album ‘Big Balloon’ sees composer Robin Richards “aiming to write the fastest Dutch Uncles song to date”. He continued: “I wanted to experiment with subtle key changes guided by erratic synth stabs, contrasted with legato string lines”.
Yep, it’s certainly got all of that in there. Featuring backing vocals from members of Stealing Sheep and Everything Everything, it’s got a metric ton of kinetic guitar riffs and a little smattering of strings, too. Plus, that opening synth melody is kind of reminiscent of Prince’s ‘Let’s Go Crazy’, and that’s definitely not a bad thing.
Lead singer Duncan Wallis also explained some of the themes behind the song in a statement: “As soon as you are back to emotional zero, BAM! Opportunity knocks. Perhaps not in the way you thought it would, but a connection all the same, and the realisation genuinely carefree times are right there in your palm”.
