Erykah Badu shares new track ‘Phone Down’
The “official leak” is dedicated to Drake, apparently.
Erykah Badu clearly has phones on the mind. Last month the Texan musician reworked Drake’s turtleneck-clad summer hit ‘Hotline Bling,’ turning it into her own ‘Hotline Bling But U Caint Use My Phone’ mix. Now, she’s back with another mobile-based track - ‘Phone Down’. “This ones for Aubrey,” she wrote in a post, dedicating the song to Drake.
The musical links between Erykah Badu and Drake go back further than the hotline bling connection. In his song ‘Days in the East,’ he raps about having a heart to heart and a cuppa with Erykah Badu. “We talked about love and what life could really be for me,” he says, ““She said, when that shit is real, you just know.”
‘Phone Down’ - an ode to checking out from screen life and focusing on the now instead - comes from Erykah Badu’s upcoming mixtape ‘But You Caint Use My Phone’. Badu says the mixtape will be out Thanksgiving weekend (the four day holiday starts on November 26th, so look out for it around then).
