George Ezra performed on the John Peel stage at Glastonbury earlier this afternoon (Sunday 29th June), running through material from his debut album ‘Wanted on Voyage’, due out tomorrow (Monday 30th June); watch him perform ‘Blame It On Me’ below.

“This is what I remember of Glastonbury as a kid, this box,” George laughed after his set, speaking to Greg James in BBC Three’s studio overlooking the site. “I think I’m too young to truly understand who John Peel was, but I think we all appreciate exactly what he did, so to be asked to play the John Peel tent was amazing for me.”

“I went to watch Royal Blood yesterday,” he continued, “and it was the biggest mistake, because I got so nervous! I was stood in the middle of the crowd and I was like, ‘Oh god, it’s quite big, there’s quite a few people here…’ But actually when you’re on stage it’s easier to swallow, it looks a lot more bearable.

“Before I came here, everyone used to say, ‘Glastonbury’s so big! There’s so much going on!’ And I was like, ‘Shut up, give it a rest’. But it really is that big, there really is as much going on as everyone says. There’s a good atmosphere here. It’s amazing I get to release the album tomorrow, but I like to enjoy things as they happen, and today was really special.”

Other acts to play the John Peel stage this weekend include Kaiser Chiefs, Lykke Li, CHVRCHES, Wild Beasts and Drenge on Friday (27th June), MGMT, Twin Atlantic, Courtney Barnett and Wolf Alice on Saturday (28th June), and Lonely The Brave, Dry the River, Bleachers and Chance the Rapper today. It will be headlined by London Grammar later this evening.

This week George is on the cover of DIY Weekly, available to download for iPhone, iPad and Android or read online now. He’ll also play Latitude this July.
