George Ezra takes on BBC Introducing Stage and wins

Before joining up with his full band tomorrow (29th June), George Ezra does a solo shift to headline the BBC Introducing Stage.

To take on a festival as huge as Glastonbury as part of a band is one thing, to do it by yourself is quite another. Two do it twice in two days - George Ezra knows no fear. Stood on the BBC Introducing stage as a legitimate headliner, with a top five single in the charts and a debut album out on Monday, he’s living the dream.

‘Blame It On Me’ starts a “short but sweet set”, returning to the stage of his first ever festival performance this time last year. ‘Cassy O’’ wasn’t around to make that trip twelve months ago, but this year it’s a legitimate stormer, while ‘Leaving It Up To You’ forgoes the choir brought in for the album version. There’s a bewitching edge to one man and a guitar headlining a stage alone, though. There’s no bombast, no fancy tricks, just a disarming sense of humour and the music.

‘Budapest’’s legitimate smash hit status is rewarded with a good old fashion sing-a-long, leaving time for closer ‘Did You Hear The Rain?’ before joining up with his full band for tomorrow’s John Peel Stage set. Re-enforcements may be coming, but tonight George Ezra stared down the biggest festival in the world and won.
