Ghostpoet and Bat for Lashes and more have made a concept album about the body's organs

Ghostpoet and Bat for Lashes are among the musicians getting in on a new project for the Wellcome Trust. The London-based charity funds biomedical research, and now they’re releasing a concept album about the organs of the human body.

Ghostpoet’s choice is a pretty solid one - “I chose the liver because as a heavy drinker at times, I felt It was necessary to discover more about an organ I was potentially destroying as a past-time,” he justified in a statement, speaking about his contribution ‘A Plateful of Liver’. Bat For Lashes meanwhile, went a bit off piste, and chose the body’s largest organ, the skin. Her own song - ‘Skin Song’ - is “from the perspective of an old lady looking back on her life through thoughts of the history in her skin.” Right then.

In order to write the songs, the musicians were given access to operating theatres, the Wellcome collection, and the know-how of academics at University College London.

Also contributing to ‘Body of Songs’ are the likes of Goldie, Andreya Triana, Scrufizzer, and Afrikan Boy. Head to the project’s official site for more details. The album is out now - stream it below.
