Grouper announces new album ‘Grid of Points’
She’s also shared ‘Parking Lot’ from the upcoming LP.
It’s been a couple of years since Grouper released her last album ‘Ruins’ but now Liz Harris is back with details of a new full-length.
‘Grid of Points’ is coming out via Kranky on 27th April. It follows a period where Liz travelled to Wyoming to work on art and record music, finding herself drawn to solo piano and vocal elements. It’s been inspired by “the idea that something is missing or cold” and describes the eight tracks as “small texts hanging in space”.
Speaking of the new album, Liz said: “Grid Of Points is a set of songs for piano and voice. I wrote these songs over a week and a half; they stopped abruptly when I was interrupted by a high fever. Though brief, it is complete. The intimacy and abbreviation of this music allude to an essence that the songs lyrics speak more directly of. The space left after matter has departed, a stage after the characters have gone, the hollow of some central column, missing”.
Coinciding with the announcement of the album, she’s also shared ‘Parking Lot’, which captures the spirit of the record’s promised sparse tone.
