Japanese Breakfast shares new video for latest track ‘Orlando In Love’
It’s the lead single of her recently-announced fourth LP, ‘For Melancholy Brunettes (& sad women)’.

After returning last week to share details of her anticipated fourth album ‘For Melancholy Brunettes (& sad women)’ (due out on 21st March via Dead Oceans), Japanese Breakfast - aka Michelle Zauner - has now also unveiled a new video for the record’s lead single, ‘Orlando In Love’.
Expanding on her inspirations for the track - a tenderly romantic exploration of temptation and desire, replete with orchestral flourishes - Zauner has observed that “‘Orlando in Love’ is made up of a hodgepodge of odd references”.
Continuing, she explains: “The title comes from an epic poem by Matteo Maria Boiardo called Orlando Innamorato. […] I fell in love with the title and envisioned a sort of whimsical, foolish male protagonist who lives by the sea in a Winneabeago RV and is seduced by a siren. After writing it, it felt like the perfect thesis statement for an album that is largely about people, often men, who find themselves seduced by temptation and are duly punished for it.”
Since her last release in 2021, JBrekkie has seen her work truly enter the cultural mainstream for the first time - that year’s ‘Jubilee’ received a GRAMMY’s nod, while her memoir Crying In H Mart became a best-seller. This new album, then, finds her in a more reflective, contemplative place; produced by Blake Mills (Bob Dylan, Fiona Apple) and recorded at LA’s renowned Sound City, ‘For Melancholy Brunettes…’ swaps the brightness of ‘Jubilee’ for moodier, more mysterious soundscapes.
“I felt seduced by getting what I always wanted,” Zauner has said of experiencing such success. “I was flying too close to the sun, and I realized if I kept going I was going to die.”
