Kanye West says his initial impression of Beck was “inaccurate”
Yeezy sent flowers to the Grammy winner for this year’s incident.
Kanye West appears to have admitted that this year’s Beck Grammys debacle was a mistake.
Four months on from the incident - where Kanye jokingly pretended to storm the stage as Beck won the Grammy Album of the Year for ‘Morning Phase’, before not joking at all in a post-awards speech - Yeezy says his actions may have been overboard.
While still stating that Beyonce’s self-titled album should have picked up the award, he told the Sunday Times his comments were “inaccurate”.
“You know, I send flowers for inaccuracies. I talked to Beck’s wife, and I think I had a point about Beyonce’s album, but I think I was inaccurate with the concept of a gentleman who plays 14 instruments not respecting artistry,” he said.
He went on to say that he expressed a “mass opinion”, at the time. “Isn’t it amazing that people are so constantly shocked by the commonly agreed-in truth? How much bullshit are we in if, every single time I give not just my opinion, but a vast 80%, 90% opinion, I get into that much trouble? When the truth is a mass opinion. That’s not about accuracy, it’s the definition of truth.”
Kanye West headlines Glastonbury Festival on Saturday 27th June.
