Kevin Devine Downscales EU Tour
The singer-songwriter won’t be bringing the Goddamn Band across the Atlantic.
Kevin Devine has been forced to downscale his planned European tour, which starts next month.
The singer-songwriter, who released albums ‘Bubblegum’ and ‘Bulldozer’ earlier this year, had planned to bring the Goddamn Band along for the ride throughout January and February, but according to a statement posted on his website today, ‘economic concerns’ have dictated otherwise.
‘After much hand-wringing,’, he says, ‘consternation, numbers-crunching, and internal debate, I’ve had to make the difficult and not-necessarily-preferred decision to embark on the January/February 2014 Europe & UK tour alone, and not with the Goddamn Band, as was previously scheduled & announced.’
In the interests of complete transparency, it ultimately (and even more unfortunately) comes down to boring administrative, economic concerns: performing solo, the tour breaks even, maybe does slightly better; bringing the band and dealing with all the attendant expenses, the tour becomes something we lose between $5,000 and $12,000 to do, and, Kickstarter be damned, that’s not something we can manage when we’re self-funding the entire 24 months (we hope) of touring & support the Bubblegum & Bulldozer project deserves and requires.
I accept full responsibility for the fact that we should have figured those realities out earlier. We were a bit overeager & starry-eyed about our prospects & the depth of our pockets, and were hedging our bets about a few things we were hoping would materialize in the interim. When they didn’t, and several different budget projections left us staring down the unavoidable truth, we decided me going alone was better than outright canceling.
I apologize, for myself & for the rest of the band, to anyone who is disappointed with that shift, not least of all the people booking/promoting the shows & those of you who’ve already purchased tickets. I thank all of the promoters & our booking agents, as well as everyone presenting the tour, for their flexibility & patience.’
All dates remain as before, bar Salzburg replaced by a night in Padova, Italy, and the date in Innsbruck has been relocated.
Kevin Devine’s UK dates are:
FEBRUARY
4 London The Lexington
5 Bristol Louisiana
6 Manchester Soup Kitchen
7 Glasgow Nice N Sleazy
Tickets are on sale now.
