Listen: Animal Collective Unveil First Track From Centipede Hz.
Panda Bear revealed ‘Today’s Supernatural’ in the band’s weekly late-night radio show.

Luckily for those of us who couldn’t quite muster the nocturnal energy to listen in to Animal Collective’s radio show at 2am last night, the band are looping their first Panda Bear curated show for 24 hours, and then placing the show into an embeddable player. There are some weird and wonderful sounds and spinning visuals looping today on the Centipede Hz. radio site but inbetween all the sitar mixes, European heavy metal, David Bowie covers and static filled radio announcements, Panda Bear also found time to give us our first preview into the new album, track ‘Today’s Supernatural’, which you can hear below:
With a far more aggressive, live sound to the doubled harmonics that ruled on ‘Merriweather Post Pavilion’, ‘Today’s Supernatural’ gives us our first glimpse into what to expect when ‘Centipede Hz’ comes out on the 3rd September. If this is anything to go by, we’re very excited.
Animal Collective are encouraging fans to create their own late night mixes using downloadable sounds, with 5 winners winning a test press vinyl of the new album.
Geologist (Brian Ross Weitz) also revealed some of the unorthodox writing techniques the band used during recording.
‘While mixing Centipede Hz, we were killing time at the studio by playing around with some synthesizer apps we just found, and it turned into a pretty long drone jam. I got hungry and wanted to tell the other guys we should get lunch, but I didn’t want to kill the vibe so while we were playing I quickly looked for a robot voice app that I could program to say “Who wants lunch?” and started looping it until the other guys realized what it was saying. We ate shortly after, and later went on to use the same voice on the album and in the videos we’ve been releasing on our website.’
