Listen: BOOTS Airs ‘WinterSpringSummerFall’ Mixtape

The mysterious producer and Beyonce-album-collaborator tells his own story with first mixtape release.

If you’ve been hankering to know more about the mysterious BOOTS, the producer behind much of Beyonce’s last album, well, it looks like you’re in luck, because the elusive musician has released his first mixtape proper. ‘This is my album/mixtape/whatever the fuck you wanna call it,’ says Jordan Asher, but whatever it is, it’s the prescription of the day.

‘WinterSpringSummerFall’ was recorded in various destinations all over the world - London, Toronto, Australia and New York among others - and samples everything from reoccurring answer-phone messages to train sounds from New Orleans. Featuring Shlohmo, Jeremih, Son Lux, Margot, Kelela, and Beyonce, there’s a fantasy league of collaborators involved, but from the very first track, ‘A Day in the Life of Jordan Asher’, it’s BOOTS who is the star of the show. The production is bold, and his lyrics are bolder still. His narrative is packed with bizarre, brilliant imagery all over the shop.

BOOTS puts it best when he says ‘it’s who I am, not what I do, that defines me’ on ‘Howl’. Jordan Asher is far more than just Beyonce’s producer, and everything you need to know about him is right here in the songs. Have a listen below:
