Liverpool venue The Kazimier reportedly under threat from closure

Beloved venue is subject to a proposed redevelopment scheme.

Liverpool venue The Kazimier could be set to close, according to reports.

The venue falls under proposed redevelopment schemes in Wolstenholme Square, the de-facto hub of this year’s Liverpool Sound City, where DIY hosted a showcase at The Garage. This year, the venue hosted an unforgettable Sound City set from Drenge, as well as one of Jamie T’s comeback gigs.

According to Louder Than War, the area is set for a multi-million pound redevelopment’. Hope Street Properties Ltd are aiming to start new building works in the space of the next two years.

Another venue under threat is the Nation. Marc Jones, who promotes nights here, told local paper The Echo: “The live music scene in Liverpool is dying on its feet. Every city has the same city centre now which has the same shops where no-one can find anything independent. But we want bands to be playing here, in smaller, grottier venues. We want to create a hub of independence. That is what made Liverpool famous. Plans like this take the soul out of the city.”

Next year’s Liverpool Sound City is moving from Liverpool’s city centre to its historic Bramley Moore Dock, with Sound City moving from a handful of central venues to a “main hub” of pop-up stages, tents and the festival’s first ever outdoor stage.
