Lowertown return with news of next LP ‘Ugly Duckling Union’
The album has been previewed by way of the pair’s lo-fi new love song, ‘I Like You Alot’.

New York duo Lowertown are back, having just announced that their fourth album, ‘Ugly Duckling Union’, will arrive on 22nd May via their new label home of Summer Shade.
Born out of a period of uncertainty during which the pair (teenage friends Olivia Osby and Avsha Weinberg) experienced tour burnout, creative frustrations, interpersonal obstacles and coming of age growing pains, the record saw them return to Atlanta, Georgia, to rediscover their roots. The result - ‘Ugly Duckling Union’ is a zeitgeist-capturing concept album in which our titular duckling protagonist, Dale, is set against the corporate tyranny of a power-hungry media firm.
Our first taste of what to expect from the LP - a follow up to 2022’s ‘I Love To Lie’ - comes courtesy of lead single ‘I Like You Alot’, an uncharacteristic love song that, according to the band, “was written about the hope of a new crush, and the intoxicating feelings of admiring and fantasizing about someone from afar.”
Continuing, they explain that it captures the feeling of “loving someone without yet knowing them, and being filled with the idea of the potential time spent together. This thinking can become obsessive and compulsive, almost like a sickness taking over the body, but maybe not in a particularly bad way. It is also about the insecurity and the uncertainty about these feelings being reciprocated or un-reciprocated.”
