Maisie Peters teams up with Julia Michaels for latest album preview ‘Kingmaker’
Loosely inspired by Wolf Hall, it’s about “the sting of uplifting someone, only to find out they didn’t deserve you in the first place.”

Maisie Peters has continued to tease the release of her forthcoming album ‘Florescence’ - which is due to arrive on 15th May - with a new duet with singer-songwriter and six-time Grammy nominee Julia Michaels.
Entitled ‘Kingmaker’, the collab single takes inspiration from Hilary Mantel’s book series Wolf Hall, and nods to the oft-unacknowledged lengths women go to in order to better their male counterparts. “‘Kingmaker’ is a song about power dynamics, chiefly about being a woman and feeling like you’ve offered your time, wisdom, talent, and belief to someone who has then taken advantage of it,” Maisie has explained.
“It’s about the sting of uplifting someone, only to find out they didn’t deserve you in the first place; about giving a man the benefit of the doubt and having it thrown in your face.”
Of partnering with Julia for the writing process, she added: “I think we have both had the experience of achieving success and witnessing the impact that has on the romantic relationships in our lives - on the egos of the men who say they want a strong woman, until it “makes them bitter.”
‘Kingmaker’ lands as the fifth track to be lifted from ‘Florescence’, following a string of recent cuts: ‘My Regards’, ‘Say My Name In Your Sleep’, ‘You You You’, and ‘Audrey Hepburn’. Hear it here:
