Matilda Mann returns with new single 'Bittersweet'

Over a year on from the release of her debut album, Matilda Mann has returned with a brand new single.

Written with Jonah Summerfield and Matts Sandhal, her newest offering, ‘Bittersweet’, is a tender reflection on the distance that can grow in the space of former close relationships. “This was a song written totally from my subconscious,” Matilda explains, of the track. “I didn’t realise who or what it was about until I was performing it months later on tour. I used to be really close with someone in my teenage years and we had to go through a lot of challenges and emotions together. Being a teenager is already confusing and everything feels like a whirlwind and heightened.

“So when they moved away when I was 18, we lost touch and we didn’t get to grow together into the people we are today. I used to hold onto the past a lot and through rose tinted glasses I saw it as an easier time. Whereas I think I’m now finally experiencing peace and am able to look back and realise maybe it wasn’t as perfect as I remembered. Therefore I don’t think I can ever have that person back in my life, as they just remind me of a period of my life I don’t really care to reminisce/ revisit anymore. So it’s bitter that we don’t know each other the way we did, but sweet that we’re both a lot happier now - we can just hold each other as memories from now on.”

‘Bittersweet’ follows on from last year’s standalone release ‘Inventing’, and her debut album ‘Roxwell’, which was released in February last year. Listen to her single, and remind yourself of our ‘Roxwell’ review, below.
