Mazes, Gross Magic & More For Sex Is Disgusting Brighton Weekender - RIP Sex Is Disgusting

Foreign Objects, Keel Her, and Cold Pumas will also play at the independent label and promoter’s last ever live shows in June.

Sex Is Disgusting have announced details of their last ever live shows - a Brighton weekender featuring Mazes, R. Stevie Moore, Gross Magic and more.

The Brighton-based independent label and promoters, who have released the likes of Mazes, Male Bonding, and Spectrals all before they rose to wider public attention, have announced that the label will be coming to an end.

14 bands have been announced to play at Brighton’s Green Door Store on the weekend of 2 and 3 June for their last ever shows. Those appearing will include Foreign Objects, Mazes, Gross Magic, Sealings, Cold Pumas, Keel Her, R. Stevie Moore, La La Vasquez, and more - with further artists expected to be confirmed soon.

Posting on Facebook, James Hines and Andrew Auld - who run the label - said: ‘This is our last ever show; four years on from a tacked together Graffiti Island/The Sticks show in The Hobgoblin minus Black Time who had came down with the lurgy.

‘We’ve had fights, we’ve made friends, we’ve had money stolen, we’ve broken our backs lugging around equipment, we’ve drenched ourselves in beer, we’ve had some of the best nights I can remember in my lifetime, we’ve struggled against the status quo and always tried our utmost to treat every artist who has played for us and every single person through the door with respect. Most importantly, it was fun.

‘It’s been a great 4 years & there are no real negative reasons for ending - everyone just needs a break after a little while.’

James and Andy started what became one of the most respected independent labels in the UK back in 2008, and have been regularly lauded for how they went about their job.

Their first ever release was a three way split between Graffiti Island, Pens and Male Bonding back in October 2008. Six months later they released Mazes’ debut single.

Posting on their blog, Mazes front-man Jack Cooper said: ‘James and Andy were the first people to pay us any attention back in 2009 after hearing some demos I recorded with Jay.

‘The second ever show we played was for SiD alongside Wavves and Pens. They put out our first single. Chances are they were the first people to put on your favourite band.’

More recently, Andrew and James put out Fear Of Men’s debut release through Sex Is Disgusting, and released a 7’ EP from Human Hands in summer 2011.

Last year they hosted a stage at The Great Escape - other artists they’ve released include Fair Ohs, Prize Pets, Rent Boys, Spectrals, and Pheromoans.

They’ve said that the remainder of stock will be on sale at the two day event, with a limited number of t-shirts and prints to commemorate the end of the label also available.
