Miles Kane Talks New LP: “There’s A Couple Of Angry Songs…”

Kane’s new album, ‘Don’t Forget Who You Are’ will be released later this year.

We may have a bit of a wait yet for that new Last Of The Shadow Puppets’ record. Despite, along with bandmate Alex Turner, having promised it was on the way on a regular basis over the last four years or so, Miles Kane has been keeping himself busy with a few other matters instead.

It’s not actually been that long since he knocked out ‘Colour Of The Trap’, his debut record. Then, he called in mates like Noel Gallagher to work on backing vocals (‘My Fantasy’), and French actress Clémence Poésy (‘Happenstance’), as well as enlisting the writing services of best mate Turner and Gruff Rhys.

When it came to recording the follow up though, Kane’s found himself a new partner in crime, calling in the lead singer of The Lightning Seeds, Ian Broudie. Having previously worked with The Zutons, The Subways and I Am Kloot, amongst others, he’s been lending Miles a hand as he tries to circumnavigate any ‘difficult second album’ syndrome.

‘I’m very happy with it; it’s a great, upbeat, stomping album and I’m very proud of it,’ Kane says, speaking in the new issue of DIY Weekly. ‘We were playing the songs on this tour that we’ve just done, and they went down a storm; considering people haven’t heard them before.

‘Each song is catchy. They’re all three minutes, and there’s no fat on any songs, it’s all condensed. There’s no confusion over what any song is, it’s very direct. There’s a lot of positivity in this record, about feeling good, and the reasoning and stuff. There’s a couple of angry songs that are in your face, but it’s a statement, you know?’
