Speaking out
Morrissey dismisses crowdfunding albums as “a desperate measure”
Moz says raising funds for albums via fans is an “insulting” move.
Morrissey has spoken out against artists crowdfunding their own album releases, calling the move a “desperate” and “insulting” approach.
In an interview with El Pais (via FACT), he speaks openly about his lack of options when it comes to releasing another record. Claiming that touring is “the only option left for me” with raising funds, he said: “[Crowdfunding] is a desperate measure, and insulting to your audience. We have already provided sufficient amounts of money. What is the next thing you’re going to ask? Brush our teeth?”
Touring, on the other hand, is “very good and exciting.” Continuing, he said: “The only unpleasant part of this that whenever a concert is canceled the story captures attention, but if the concert took place, it would hardly be mentioned. Many people enjoy writing negative things about me. Which is fine with me. Let them if it makes them happy.”
