Nick Mulvey To Play Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide Series, Shares ‘April’ Track

A founder member of Portico Quartert, Mulvey’s debut EP found release last November.

Nick Mulvey is best known for his work with Portico Quartet, a Mercury Prize-nominated project he’s since departed before pursuing his own solo work.

A recent recommendation on Dummy Mag from Gilles Peterson pointed us towards Mulvey’s solo work, which is devastating in craft; the most intimidating of listens, particularly if you’ve just picked up a guitar for the first time. Mulvey ebbs in a remarkable, Jose Gonzales/ Nick Drake style to a track like ‘April’, which you can stream below:

‘April’ forms part of Mulvey’s debut EP ‘The Trellis’, which gained release on Fiction last November. Recorded in Summer 2012, Mulvey purrs over a distinct, scattered guitar line. ‘I go to see April on the back of the Regent’s Canal’ he sings, all soulful and unerringly downtrodden.

Nick Mulvey plays Gilles Peterson’s upcoming Worldwide Series date at London KOKO, which also features Neneh Cherry, Stubborn Heart and The Invisible. Details of the event can be found here.
