Oceaán previews new EP with ‘Candour’ track
Oliver Cean gets up close on a slick take from his new release.
With each glimpse of new material, Manchester producer Oceaán shows a new shade. Fifty Shades of Oliver Cean? Bit weird. But in previewing his new ‘Grip’ EP, he’s gone from heady, buzzing electronica to shape-shifting pop to this, the slick intimacy of ‘Candour’.
Backed by a beat that sounds like a loose object being thrown from one side to the other in a contained space, all focus is on Cean’s vocals, which range from whispers to beat-driven statements. “I never wanted anyone,” he claims, before finding a groove in a soon-to-be-trademark mix of whistling synths and gorgeous melodies.
‘The Grip’ EP is out 8th December on Chess Club Records.
Oceaán plays London’s The Waiting Room on 22nd and 29th January, Manchester’s The Eagle on 23rd and 30th January.
