Paul McCartney showcases new video for ‘Hope For The Future’
His new clip scores ten on the cringe-o-meter.
Revered for his shattering of sonic boundaries and appetite for musical experimentation, Paul McCartney poured his legendary creativity into another art form back in September by contributing to the score and soundtrack of popular console game Destiny.
And now, ‘Hope For The Future’, one of the songs he composed exclusively for the game, has been given its own video. Problem is, it’s a little bit weird…
Interspersed with various bits of game play, the clip features an uncomfortable-looking Macca journeying around Destiny’s interplanetary landscapes in holographic form, serenading a host of characters with his saccharine croon.
Speaking clichéd and syrupy words of hope and unity, the song itself matches the video’s own spectacular cringe factor. The former Beatle’s bumbling hand gestures and awkward Dad-dancing rounding off an unfortunate comparison to Cliff Richard’s Millennium Prayer. Which, without a doubt, is something much more unsettling than anything on ‘Sgt. Pepper.’
