Petite Noir returns with VHS inspired video and new EP

New track ‘Chess’ is taken from debut EP ‘The Anxiety King’.

Petite Noir is the moniker of South African singer Yannick Ilunga, who is releasing a debut EP in January via Domino imprint Double Six.

Today sees the release of ‘Chess’, Ilunga’s first material since emerging in 2012 with ‘Disappear’ and ‘Till We Ghosts’, both of which will be featured on ‘The Anxiety King’.

Directed by Ceiron Magat (Foals, Depeche Mode, Crystal Fighters), the video for ‘Chess’ features Ilunga’s self-described “Noirwave” track against a backdrop of colourful paintings.

Complete with biker gear, bubbles and bling, Ilunga stands before the camera with consummate ease and an unabashed sense of uniqueness. ‘Chess’ is a soaring, wonky hybrid of new wave sensibilities and baroque pop that stops nothing short of being euphoric.
