Playlounge namecheck Black Flag with new ‘Dukowski’ song
Hear the latest cut to feature on Alcopop! and Dog Knights Productions’ split release.
This week has been devoted to a four-part thriller of a split-release between labels Alcopop! and Dog Knights Productions. Every day this week - with the exception of tomorrow, where we’ll be getting withdrawal symptoms - we’ve been premiering a cut from the 12”, out this September. So far you’ve heard new cuts from Johnny Foreigner, Doe and Doctrines. Now it’s the turn of Playlounge.
On ‘Dukowski’, the London two-piece namecheck former Black Flag bassist Chuck Dukowski. It’s also a quick nod to Playlounge’s well-documented favourite band, William. They have a song called ‘Thomowski’. Go figure.
Like Playlounge’s finest moments, the track speeds by at a relentless speed, threatening to stampede into the distance before being cut off to a solitary three minutes. That’s the marker of these thrashers - they always leave you wanting more. “The song is about all the stuff I was going through last summer with and without relationships and weird friendships,” says Saam Watkins. He says it’s about “remembering the things you do like they’re a series of photographs and colours… about how I was kinda bummed about life but on the cusp of being super happy again - like for real, I could see it.”
Roxy Brennan - now of Joanna Gruesome - features on vocals. The split-release will be out proper on September 28th.
