Rat Boy aims for the big leagues at Reading 2017
Jordan Cardy and co. brought a riot to the main stage this afternoon.
When we spoke to Rat Boy for a recent feature around his debut album ‘SCUM’, he told us he wasn’t satisfied until he and his band were headlining the main stage at Reading & Leeds.
“Every single day, me and the band sit down and we think to ourselves, we are not where we want to be yet. We’re doing the main stage at Reading & Leeds, but it’s in the middle of the day. We want it to be later. We want it to be bigger. We’re working harder than we ever have done, and we’re pushing every day.”
Half way through his main stage set today, Jordan Cardy says: “We were supposed to headline, but they messed up the times,” before whacking out the guitar riff from ‘Sweet Home Alabama’.
It would seem like a pretty outrageous gesture, if the band weren’t well on the way to fulfilling this promise. Bounding onto a stage filled with traffic cones, Cardy is brimming with confidence, and it’s not a stretch at all to imagine him topping the bill here in a matter of years.
It’s only 3pm on the first day of Reading 2017, but Rat Boy are already clearly staking a claim to be a future headliner.
